     Yadkin County was established in 1850
from 
Surry County in North Carolina and was named after the Yadkin River that runs through the area.  Yadkin is located in the Piedmont and Yadkin Valley regions of North Carolina.  According to the 2000 US Census, the Yadkin

County population is 36,348.  This county is approximately 310 square miles.
  In recent years, the Yadkin Valley Wine Region or Yadkin Valley Appellation has been named as the first American Viticultural Area in North Carolina.  There are several vineyards and wineries in the Yadkin Valley area that are open to the public for tours, wine-tasting, and other events throughout the year.
















 





While located in the Piedmont of North Carolina, Yadkin County still has beautiful scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and is just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Yadkin County is a combination of farmland, country homes and estates, and small towns.  

 

Yadkin County School System has a total of 8 elementary schools and 2 high schools. Surry Community College in Surry County has a satellite facility in Yadkin.  Also, several area universities and colleges in the Triad are within an hour's drive.  

 

Hoots Memorial Hospital is located in the town of Yadkinville offers a full range of medical services for the community.  Also, residents in Yadkin County are just minutes away from Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin and several medical facilities in Winston-Salem, NC.

 

As part of the county´s local recreational opportunities, Yadkin County Park offers tennis, walking, hiking, and biking trails, golf, ballfields, picnic shelters, swimming, fishing, and the Ted C. Williams Amphitheatre which has a summer music series. Yadkin County is also about an hour away from Stone Mountain State Park in Wilkes County and Pilot Mountain State Park in Surry County.  Both of these parks offer walking and hiking trails, picnic areas, camping and more.
