     As for medical facilities, Surry County has two area hospitals:
Northern Surry Hospital is in Mount Airy and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital is in Elkin. Wilkes County has Wilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro and The Wellness Center in Wilkesboro. In Yadkin County Hoots Memorial Hospital of Yadkinville offers a full range of medical services for the community. A variety of doctors and medical specialists also have offices within each county. Local residents are only about an hour away from larger medical facilities, Forsyth Medical Center and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem and are less than 2 hours away from the Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.

     If you and your family are considering relocating to the Yadkin Valley Region of North Carolina, then you may want to know about educational opportunities. Within the Surry County School System are 9 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 3 high schools. Two towns located in Surry County have independent school systems, Elkin City Schools and Mount Airy City Schools.  If you are interested in higher education, Surry Community College is located in the county seat of Dobson.  The Wilkes County School System has 13 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 4 high schools.  Also, the Wilkes Community College is located in Wilkesboro. The Yadkin County School System has a total of 8 elementary schools and 2 high schools. Surry Community College in Surry County has a satellite facility in Yadkin County. All three of these northwestern North Carolina counties are close to at least 14 colleges and universities located in the Triad of North Carolina.
