Surry County, Wilkes County, and Yadkin County of North Carolina all have music deeply rooted in their heritage, especially Gospel and Bluegrass music. They Yadkin Valley area is well known for its fiddler's conventions during the spring and summer. One of the most notable annual music events is Merlefest which is held each year in Wilkes County and is hosted by Doc Watson. Musicians and thousands of fans from all over the country attend Merlefest.
The Ebenezer Garden Christian Children´s Home also hosts a big musical event in Wilkes County each year. Singing in the Foothills is a Southern Gospel 2-day event to raise money for the children's home. This year's event was scheduled in June at the Wilkesboro Raceway Park in Wilkesboro, NC.
